Thistle & Shrub Studios is offering painting services of single character models.

Note: May 9, 2008: Thistle & Shrub Studios is going on a commission hiatus, to allow us to work on our own pieces. You are welcome to make a request for a model to be painted, but please don’t be too disappointed if we refuse to work on it. Thanks, shrub34.

How to Get the Painting Services of Thistle & Shrub Studios


  • Send an email to Rodney, Shrub or Thistle if you know exactly who you wish to paint it. Otherwise send one to Commissions@thistleshrub.net and we’ll discuss what model, how and time frame for the model you would like painted.

  • We’ll then provide you a quote with in the next 72 hours.

  • If you agree with the quote and the schedule we set out then send us an email stating so and we’ll get to painting.

  • We paint the model and provide you photo updates as we see fit but usually once a week or as we have questions.

  • When we provide you an update this would be an excellent time to let us know if there is something different you want. If the request is larger than original quote, then we let you know and wait for approval before going through with that change.

  • Once the model is done, we remind you of the final cost (model, shipping, and painting).

  • You pay by money order,paypal or bank check.

  • Once things clear, we ship off your miniature as safely as we can.

Starting at $100.00 USD (size of the vehicle will dictate what we quote)

* Rates are just painting, final cost will additionally have model/conversion material and shipping costs.

We paint to the best of our ability. We don’t lower our personal standards to reduce price.

What is Included


Our prices include:

  • Basic assembly

  • Preparation (Mold Line Removal etc).

  • Priming (Color depends on the model, Dupli-color Sandable Primer).

  • Painting

  • Basic basing (ballast and flock or static grass; more elaborate basing will raise quote).

  • Sealant (Testor Dullcoate)

  • Miniatures painted by us are not to be entered into any painting competitions or passed off as your own work. If you purchase one of our miniatures and plan on/end up reselling it, please let people know it was painted by us, especially if you are a miniature painter yourself.

  • All pictures we take are copyright© of Thistle & Shrub Studios and we have the right post those pictures as we feel is needed. If you have a reason for those pictures not to be shown for a period of time please let us know.

  • We will not ship a finished miniature until full payment has arrived (and cleared from bank checks).

  • We would prefer to either purchase new or recieve miniatures unassembled as it makes our job easier. Of course a custom piece made by someone else is paintable by us, just we prefer to work on initially unassembled models.

  • If the model has already recieved some paint and we need to strip the paint, let us know as that will effect the quote.

  • If you’re shipping us a custom model, make sure that it is assembled sturdily. Last thing either of us need is to have us reassembling it.

  • If you have a deadline to have the miniature done, please notify us of this during initial contact. If we don’t have time, we don’t wish to waste yours.

  • We need to receive final payment with in 3 weeks. If one month passes without recieving payment then the model becomes our property.

  • We may decline any commission during initial discussions. There are some models we refuse to paint or have painted too many recently.

  • We have the right to change our quotes from miniature to miniature.

  • If you ask for a quote and then approach us to paint a month later that quote may no longer be valid.
